About 3D Total Textures vol.1 Release 2.0: "General Textures"
The Original Total Texture collection was created in 2001, utilising the best methods and technology of the time. Since then, techniques and technology have both moved forward, and here at 3DTotal we felt that although the original collection is still widely used and highly regarded among artists and studios of all calibers, it was time for an update...
This enormously improved version of the original texture collection now contains 188 individual Materials, comprising of over 1300 individual, hand crafted texture maps and are all fully tileable. Every Texture now has its own unique colour map, bump map, specular, mask and normal map.
Included this time are 'Overlay Masks' which can be used over tiling textures to remove obvious repeated areas, and make it possible for the texture to be used over larger areas. With the 24 unique overlay masks combined with the 188 textures on the cd, over 4500 different textures can be created! This doesn't even cover the endless textures that can be created by modifying or switching bump or specular maps.
HDRI and Panoramic maps have also been included. We have added a few to this DVD to give you a taste of the incredible uses of HDR Images which can often be expensive to both create and purchase. The HDR Images and Panorama's have been exclusively created for this collection and will not be resold or given away anywhere else.
For optimum viewing we recommend that you copy the entire contents of the DVD to your hard drive
Bonus Maps include dirt masks, shadow maps, skies and reference photos. This new improved version of the Original Collection is now more versatile, broader ranging and larger then ever.

Firefox 5 Released (Ubuntu Installation Instructions)

After changing its stable release policy to a more accelerated pace, Mozilla released Firefox 5 pretty quick after the latest major Firefox version was put out. Firefox 4 was released on March 22, 2011 and this version follows only three months later. Here’s an announcement on the Mozilla Blog website.

According to the official announcement, Firefox 5 includes:
  • more than 1000 improvements and performance enhancements
  • adds support for more modern web technologies
  • now supports CSS animation standards
  • Do Not Track privacy feature now available on Android too
  • the new Add-on SDK allows local development of add-ons
To install it immediately in Ubuntu rather than waiting for the PPAs to update, you can follow this tutorial I wrote a few days ago. It shows how to install Firefox manually and Flash too.

Microsoft launches new tool,"YourBrowserMatters" to

check your browsers security

Microsoft has announced a new tool that will help users to know more about their web browser and its security features. This new tools aims to show users how secure their browser is and how they can improve their security.
On the visit of the website, it detects the visitors web browser and returns a browser security score on a scale of 4 points.
When i tested the tool, it shows 2-2.5 points for mozilla and chrome browsers and full points for IE9. i think little biased. It shows 1 pint for IE7 ad no points for IE6. This web tool refused to test safari web browser.
